Please do not contact the JDS office staff, as they cannot make exceptions to the rules outlined in the registration software.

Vision Screenings

A DMV representative will conduct a vision screening during the classroom phase. If you successfully complete the screening, a Restricted Instruction Permit is issued that allows you to take behind-the-wheel lessons. This permit is held by the driving school.

Your permit will not be issued if you are absent on the day of the vision exam, forget your corrective lenses, fail the vision test, or do not fill out your permit paperwork correctly. You will need to wait until the next time the DMV representative visits your school to get your permit.

If you fail the vision screening, you will be given a form to take to a vision specialist. You will need to turn this form in to your instructor and wait for the DMV representative to approve your paperwork the next time they visit your high school. If the specialist prescribes corrective lenses, you must wear them while driving.

You will not be able to take behind-the-wheel lessons until you have taken and passed the vision screening given by the DMV representative at your high school.
